Samsung introduces its first AI-native headset

Samsung Electronics has launched Galaxy XR, a next-generation mixed reality headset designed to blend artificial intelligence and immersive computing. Built on the new Android XR platform, co-developed with Google and Qualcomm Technologies, the device aims to make extended reality a part of everyday life — from work to entertainment.

According to Samsung, Galaxy XR represents “a brand-new ecosystem of mobile devices” that will evolve across multiple form factors, including AI glasses and enterprise applications.

A new platform for multimodal AI

The Galaxy XR headset is the first product to embed Gemini AI at the system level, allowing users to interact naturally through voice, vision and gesture. The device can see and hear what users experience, offering conversational, context-aware assistance rather than simple commands.

This multimodal capability is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, supported by 16GB of memory and 256GB of storage, ensuring real-time processing for AI-intensive applications.

Immersive experiences for work and play

With 4K Micro-OLED displays and a 109° field of view, Galaxy XR delivers lifelike visuals for gaming, streaming, and 3D content creation. Users can:

  • Explore immersive Google Maps environments
  • Watch YouTube videos in 3D
  • Use Circle to Search to instantly identify real-world objects
  • Transform 2D photos into spatial 3D memories

For enterprise, Samsung is partnering with Samsung Heavy Industries to deliver XR-based training simulations, and with Qualcomm Technologies to expand the Snapdragon Spaces™ developer ecosystem.

Design and comfort

Engineered with a lightweight, balanced frame and detachable light shield, Galaxy XR focuses on long-term comfort. The separate battery pack allows extended wear, while advanced sensors track head, hand, and eye movement with precision.

A step towards the future of AI-native devices

Through its partnerships with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, Samsung plans to introduce stylish AI glasses that extend the XR experience into daily life. This marks the beginning of what the company calls “a long-term XR journey” where artificial intelligence and spatial computing converge.

Galaxy XR is available in select markets from 21 October (US) and 22 October (Korea).
